Ryman Healthcare Auckland 1-5 Year Singles wrap-up
11 October 2020

The Ryman Healthcare Auckland 1-5 Year Singles post-section is underway at Kohimarama Bowling Club. Weather conditions are the same as yesterday, a bit of sun, a bit of cloud and lots of wind!!!

As I write this, the first round has just finished. The smell of freshly made bacon butties is calling me!

1.00pm
We have our women finalists! Last year’s winner – Philly Akaruru from Royal Oak will challenge Tessa Farley from Balmoral. The game is about to get underway.
And we have our semi-finalists in the men’s. Adam Blucher from Te Atatu Peninsula vs Steve Ramsay from Mt Albert. And John Crow from Blockhouse Bay vs Peni Panapa from Mangere.

3.30pm

And we have a winner! Congratulations to Tessa Farley on taking out the final in a real nail-biter of a match. Philly was such a worth opponent and both players are to be commended for the high quality of bowls that were played. Tessa has won the 1-5 Pairs, Triples and Fours during her time as a Junior. So winning the Singles was something that she really wanted to achieve and we’re thrilled that she’s done that.

Our Men’s Final is now underway, with Adam Blucher vs Peni Panapa. Both men have been playing great bowls all day so I’m sure that the final will be no different.

6.30pm

Our weekend has come to an end with Peni Panapa claiming the top spot with a 21-11 win over Adam Blucher. It was a very tight game for the first half but then Peni picked up a gear and played beautiful draw bowls to close the match out. The win meant a lot, in this, his final year in Juniors. Adam was so steady all weekend and thoroughly deserved his place in the final. As a 4th year bowler, he’ll get another opportunity next year.

A final thankyou to Kohimarama Bowling Club and, in particular, Margie Sorenson. You have a wonderful group of members who have gone the extra mile to ensure that the weekend was a success.
