Pt Chevalier Pirates win the Bowls3Five 1-5 Year Interclub
6 December 2019

What a super night we had at Bridge Park Bowling Club for the Bowls2Five 1-5 Year Interclub. Our semifinalists were Section A Winners: St Heliers Orange, Section B: Balmoral Bandikoots, Section C: Pt Chevalier Pirates and Section D: St Heliers Yellow.

A blind draw determined who would play who, it was the Balmoral Bandikoots first drawn and second the Pt Chevalier Pirates in the first semifinal, leaving the two St Heliers teams to contest the other – St Heliers Yellow and St Heliers Orange.

In the Balmoral vs Pt Chevalier game it was the Pirates who took the win with a closely fought 4-3 win in the first set, but a much more convincing 12-2 in the second. In the other semifinal it was a much closer affair with the St Heliers teams drawing in the first set and coming down to the last end in the second, with St Heliers Yellow taking their place in the Final 9-8. A quick break for a saussey and bread, then on to the Final.

Again, it was the Pirates who dominated, with an 8-3 win in the first set and 10-5 in the second. In the play-off for third and fourth, it was a draw in the first set, but last year’s champs Balmoral came through with a convincing 8-3 in the second, to take the bronze.

A very big thank you to Bridge Park Bowling Club for hosting us last night. The lights made all the difference and meant our competitors were able to concentrate on their game and not the clock.

Finally, special thanks to all our teams for making this a fun and competitive event, hope to see – those still juniors – back again next year!

Congratulations Pirates!
