National Secondary Schools Bowls Championships
Event Date
Update - 10 March 2021
Due to the current uncertainty around Covid-19, this event has been suspended until further notice.

Auckland Bowls, with the support of Bowls New Zealand, is delighted to once again be hosting this event.

There are many students from throughout New Zealand who play Lawn Bowls and this tournament gives them the opportunity to show their talents on the national stage.

Students will again be playing the short and fast format Bowls3Five. This will form the basis of the National Secondary Schools Event for both singles and triples. Games generally last no more than an hour, with triples teams playing two bowls each per end, and the singles players playing four bowls per end. The game is made up of two five-end sets. In the event that sets are tied, a one end tie-breaker will be the decider. Adding to the thrill of the short format of the game, a Power Play will be available to each player / team once per game with double points for the nominated Power Play end. Astute followers of the format know this is where games can be won or lost, depending on the strategy deployed.

As the Singles and Triples will be played at the same time, players can only enter one discipline.
A number of venues will be used (all within a 5km radius) of each other. A blind draw will determine where students play (students from the same school will not necessarily be at the same venue). All qualifying will be on day one, with Post-Section and Plate on day two.
Players need to provide their own bowls.

ENTRY FEE: For Schools outside the Greater Auckland Region there is no entry fee. Schools within Auckland the entry fee is $20 per student. Schools will be invoiced once entries have closed.

We look forward to seeing some familiar faces, and hopefully some new!
