Triples Finalists Found

15 Feb 2018

The finalists of the Hunter Bowls Men's and Women's Triples have been found at the Trusts New Zealand Open.  The experienced Anne Bateman, Karen Hema and Linda Ralph will take on Esther Eu, Helen Murray and Sheila Putu in the women's final.  In the men's final it will primarily be a North Harbour affair with 2013 Champions Neil Fisher, Colin Rogan and John Walker to play David Eades, Bruce McClintock and Bart Robertson.

The Bateman skipped composite side will go into the women's finals as favourites having more experience than their opponents at this level.  Anne Bateman is a previous pairs champion and Hema and Ralph have been stalwarts of the Auckland Women's side over the past few years.  The Esther Eu combination should not be underestimated however as they had a very good day on the Blockhouse Bay greens.  In the semifinal they put an end to the run of 2017 Champions Margaret O'Connor, Christine Buchanan and Anne Dorreen with a 17-11 win.

Bateman, Hema and Ralph had a good battle against Rebekah Papera, Jo McKenna and Jenny Stockford in the semifinal before prevailing 19-12.

The Neil Fisher combination, currently serving a suspension from Bowls NZ, showed the lack of high level game play has not held them back.  They had a good win against Chris Le Lievre, David Good and Jamie Hill in the quarterfinal 22-9 and carried that good form to the semifinal where they played Chad Grant, Max Hamilton and James Williams.  This was a very close match with Fisher winning 15-14.

Eades, McClintock and Robertson had a tough semifinal against 2017 Champions Scott, Evans, Schalk Mouton and Tony Grantham in the end willing 22-17.

The finals of the Hunter Bowls Women's Triples will be played at 9.30am on Saturday with the Men's Final to follow at 12.30pm.  Both matches will be live on Sky Sport, or get on down to Blockhouse Bay Bowls to support the players!
