Bridge Park's IRL $5,000 1-5 Tournament

28 Jan 2018

Bridge Park hosted a very successful  IRL $5,000 1-5 tournament over 27/28 January. Players from as far as Browns Bay to Bay of Plenty contested a great two days of three bowl triples. IRL Managing Director and sponsor Gary Halton was keen to promote 1-5 bowls in the Auckland centre, himself being a 1st year player at Bridge Park.

After a day of qualifying and then a cup and plate draw on day 2, the Point Chevalier team of Colin Williams (skip) Alex Reed (2) and Aiden Takarua (L) were worthy winners not dropping a game all weekend. They pocketed $1,500 for their efforts. They received a fright in the second to last game, when Tua Pereeti's Bridge Park team led them most of the way before losing to Colin's team 8-7 on the last end.

It was fitting sponsor Gary Halton was in the Bridge Park team and was very impressed by the standard of the teenagers' play. Gary wants to make this an annual event and after the success of this tournament teams may need to get in early for next year.
