Selina Goddard takes up new bowls role
23 Nov 2017
New Zealand squad member Selina Goddard, has been appointed to the new club manager's role at Carlton Cornwall Bowls.
Goddard, who recently finished third in the World Champion of Champions Singles in Sydney, takes up the full-time Club Director position in mid-January.
"There's not many clubs in New Zealand where there is the opportunity to have someone in this role", says Goddard. It's a dream job for me to have the opportunity of opening up the doors and growing the business and membership of Carlton Cornwall.
"I have strong background knowledge of bowls and I'm confident I can 'sell' the club and the sport. There are so many areas in which to gain membership and we have an amazing facility. I want Carlton Cornwall to provide the best service for bowlers and to be welcoming for families and friends".
Goddard says the majority of visitors to Australian clubs are 'walk-bys' (casual players) from the surrounding community. This is an area we can tap into and I will be engaging with the local community.
Carlton Cornwall's Board of Management Chair, Graham Skellern, says "our sport is continually under pressure to make changes, to improve its offering and to turnaround declining memberships. We need to have more young bowlers and casual players coming through our gate in Market Rd".
We welcome Selina's skills and insights, and she is delighted to have this opportunity of making the club stronger, prouder and progressive.
Goddard, who spent three seasons at the Broadbeach Club on the Gold Coast, has been playing bowls for nine years and has been a member at Carlton Cornwall for four years.
She has won two national championship, the fours in 2014 and singles earlier this year, and was a Commonwealth Games bronze medallist in the fours at Glasgow in 2014. She has collected three Auckland centre titles and last weekend reached the final of the Auckland women's pairs.
