Men's and Women's 1-5 Year Triples

It was a cold start to the Men's and Women's 1-5 Year triples on Saturday 20th May. The players toughed it out and the teams that made it through to Sunday were welcomed with sunny skies.

Women's Semi-Finals:

Though to the Semi-finals in the Women's 1-5 Year Triples we have Tee Tereapii, Margarita Kelly, Carol Berry (Composite) who beat Paris Baker, Caroline Dubois, Danielle Po'oi (Avondale). Terapii, Kelly and Berry started with a bang winning their first 3 ends convincingly giving them a 10-0 lead in the 3rd end. Avondale manged to slow down their winning streak but not enough to get into the lead - the game going to the Composite team 21-10. Chelsea Farley, Tessa Farley, Linda Farley (Balmoral) who were through to the Final on a Bye.

Women's Final:

A strong final played by Chelsea Farley, Tessa Farley, Linda Farley (Balmoral Women) who definitely came out to take home the Women's 1-5 Year Triples title for 2016-2017. Tee Tereapii, Margarita Kelly, Carol Berry (Composite) put up an excellent fight but just weren't strong enough on the day to out play Balmoral Women. The Composite team of Tereapii, Kelly and Berry held a lead up to the 6th 7-6 end then lost it, to then tie up the game in the 10th end 10-10, from this point Tereapii, Kelly and Berry didn't win another end and conceded in the 16th end. Chelsea Farley, Tessa Farley, Linda Farley taking the win 28-10.

Men's Quarter Finals:

In the Men's 1-5 Year Triples Quarter Final we have Aiden Takarua (Glen Eden) bt David Ball (Mt Wellington)15-14; Willie Tanaka (East Tamaki) bt Mark Posa (St Heliers) 15-14; Graham Farley (Balmoral) bt Scott Jolley (Carlton Cornwall) 16-15.

Men's Semi Finals:

First Semi-finalists are Graham Farley, Ian Hughes, Paul Jerrom (Balmoral) beating Willie Tanaka, Sete Lefono, Naki Taviliniu (East Tamaki). Balmoral were first up on the board and took a comfortable early lead of 9-0 in the 4th end. East Tamaki struggled but managed to win the 5th end only to have Balmoral win the following 3 ends and took their lead out to 14-2 in the 8th end. East Tamaki played 2 great ends bring the score to 7-14 in the 10th end but it was all Balmoral the next 6 ends with East Tamaki conceding in the 16th end, the final score 24-7 to Balmoral winning them their spot into the Semi-final.

The Semi-final between Jay Dayal, John Crow, Mike Whynn (Blockhouse Bay) vs Aiden Takarua, Jeremy Brosnan, Richard Salter (Glen Eden) was a close one! Blockhouse Bay started the scoring with Glen Eden right behind them taking a slim lead holding onto it until Blockhouse Bay took it back in the 8th end 8-7. In the 11th end Glen Eden managed to tie up the game 9-9. From here Glen Eden turned up the volume taking the lead and hanging onto it to win 15-13.

Men's Finals:

A great final between Graham Farley, Ian Hughes, Paul Jerrom (Balmoral) and Aiden Takarua, Jeremy Brosnan, Richard Salter (Glen Eden) in the Men's 1-5 Year Triples. Glen Eden took an early lead and Balmoral fought and played some great bowls to stay in the game. Balmoral were down 9-3 in the 8th end to come back and be within 1 point of Glen Eden in the 13th end 13-12. But Glen Eden took a 4 in the 15th end that damaged Balmorals chance of a come back. Glen Eden winning the Men's 1-5 Year Triples Title for the 2016-2017 season 20-15. An excellent start for Richard Salter who is his first year and a great send off for Jeremy Brosnan who is in his last year for the 1-5 year. Well done.
