Men's and Women's 1-5 Year Triples
21 May 2017
It was a cold start to the Men's and Women's 1-5 Year triples on Saturday 20th May. The players toughed it out and the teams that made it through to Sunday were welcomed with sunny skies.
Though to the Semi-finals in the Women's 1-5 Year Triples we have
(Composite) who beat
(Avondale). Terapii, Kelly and Berry started with a bang winning their first 3 ends convincingly giving them a 10-0 lead in the 3rd end. Avondale manged to slow down their winning streak but not enough to get into the lead - the game going to the Composite team 21-10. Chelsea
who were through to the Final on a Bye.
A strong final played by Chelsea
who definitely came out to take home the Women's 1-5 Year Triples title for 2016-2017. Tee
(Composite) put up an excellent fight but just weren't strong enough on the day to out play Balmoral Women. The Composite team of Tereapii, Kelly and Berry held a lead up to the 6th 7-6 end then lost it, to then tie up the game in the 10th end 10-10, from this point Tereapii, Kelly and Berry didn't win another end and conceded in the 16th end. Chelsea
Linda Farley taking the win 28-10.
Men's Quarter Finals:
In the Men's 1-5 Year Triples Quarter Final we have Aiden Takarua (Glen Eden) bt David Ball (Mt Wellington)15-14; Willie Tanaka (East Tamaki) bt Mark Posa (St Heliers) 15-14; Graham Farley (Balmoral) bt Scott Jolley (Carlton Cornwall) 16-15.
Men's Semi Finals:
First Semi-finalists are Graham Farley,
(Balmoral) beating Willie Tanaka,
(East Tamaki). Balmoral were first up on the board and took a comfortable early lead of 9-0 in the 4th end. East Tamaki struggled but managed to win the 5th end only to have Balmoral win the following 3 ends and took their lead out to 14-2 in the 8th end. East Tamaki played 2 great ends bring the score to 7-14 in the 10th end but it was all Balmoral the next 6 ends with East Tamaki conceding in the 16th end, the final score 24-7 to Balmoral winning them their spot into the Semi-final.
The Semi-final between Jay
(Blockhouse Bay) vs
(Glen Eden) was a close one! Blockhouse Bay started the scoring with Glen Eden right behind them taking a slim lead holding onto it until Blockhouse Bay took it back in the 8th end 8-7. In the 11th end Glen Eden managed to tie up the game 9-9. From here Glen Eden turned up the volume taking the lead and hanging onto it to win 15-13.
A great final between Graham Farley,
(Balmoral) and Aiden Takarua,
(Glen Eden) in the Men's 1-5 Year Triples. Glen Eden took an early lead and Balmoral fought and played some great bowls to stay in the game. Balmoral were down 9-3 in the 8th end to come back and be within 1 point of Glen Eden in the 13th end 13-12. But Glen Eden took a 4 in the 15th end that damaged Balmorals chance of a come back. Glen Eden winning the Men's 1-5 Year Triples Title for the 2016-2017 season 20-15. An excellent start for Richard Salter
who is his first year and a great send off for Jeremy Brosnan who is in his last year for the 1-5 year. Well done.
