Wet Weekend for the Club Championship Triples

It has been a very wet weekend of bowls for the Men's and Women's Club Championship Triples. On Saturday the venues needed to be moved on to artificial greens so the men from Balmoral to Blockhouse Bay and from Onehunga to Epsom, the women moved from Mt Wellingtons natural greens to their artificial. But play did continue and the finals are all being played today - Sunday 30th April - at Epsom Bowling Club.

Auckland Women's Club Championship Triples Final:

The final between Angela Temple, Jenny Jones and Jenny Stockford (Pt Chevalier) and Corinne Pritchard, Brenda Bradford and Isobel Easton (Hillsboro Women) was a Pt Chevalier game from early on with some big ends won. Hillsboro Women were first up on the score board but had to push hard for any more points from there. Pt Chevalier won some big ends giving them a lead that would make it hard to be caught. After Pt Chevalier won 5 on the 16th end Hillsboro Women played 1 more end then decided to concede - the final score being 23-6.

Auckland Men's Club Championship Triples Final:

In the Men's Final we have Malcolm Wright, Chris Salesa and Leon Wenzluck (East Tamaki) vs Kolani Maota, Pat Bell and Ueta Otineru (Avondale). East Tamaki started with a bang and took the first 2 ends convincingly. Avondale followed this by taking the next 3 ends but were still trailing by 1 in the 5th end. East Tamaki won the next 6 ends in a row bring their lead to 15-4 in the 11th end. East Tamaki didn't give up and pushed back winning the following 3 ends 15-9 in the 14th end. But East Tamaki proved too strong today and took the win 18-11.

Auckland Women's Club Championship Triples Semi Finals:

Corinne Pritchard, Brenda Bradford, Isobel Easton (Hillsboro Women's) bt Jane Fenton, Jenny Tough, Judy Olsson (Glen Eden) 20-14 and Angela Temple, Jenny Jones, Jenny Stockford ( Pt Chevalier) bt Vicky Peterson, Deb Pain, Teitia Ryder (Waiheke) 21-11

Auckland Men's Club Championship Triples Semi Finals:

Malcolm Wright, Chris Salesa, Leon Wenzlick (East Tamaki) bt Mike Galloway, Martin Dixon, Gavin Brown (Hillsboro)16-7; Kolani Maota, Pat Bell, Ueta Otineru (Avondale) bt Phil Taylor, Tua Pereeti, Teo Turua (Bridge Park)18-15
