Greater Auckland Secondary Schools Pairs Championships
23 Mar 2017
Schools from across Auckland came together at Carlton Cornwall Bowls and competed in the Greater Auckland Secondary Schools Pairs Championship 2017. We had schools from Kaipara College on the North Shore to Kelston Boys High School in West Auckland. In total over 120 boys and girls contested the event.
Through to the Semi Final in the Boys we had Joshua Durrans and James Walsh (Auckland Grammar) vs Tobias Blaser and Yunhyeong Lee (Kelston) with Blaser and Yunhyeong winning 9-5.
In the second Semi Final Dillon Atiga and Dylan Steyn (Auckland Grammar) played Bruno Batistich and Warwick Reid (Auckland Grammar) with Atiga and Stein winning 11-7
The game between Blaser and Yunhyeong vs Atiga and Stein was a great game. With Kelston being very supportive from the sideline the pressure was on Auckland Grammar to hold the lead they took early in the game, which they managed to maintain until the the last end when Kelston tied the game up so it went to an extra end which Kelston won 9-8 and became the Greater Auckland Secondary Schools Pairs Champions for 2017!
In the first Semi Final in the Girls we had Hazel Velasques and Ne've Wolloner (St Dominic's) vs Chante Leafa and Leilani Vetelino (Auckland Girls Grammar) with Leafa and Vetelino winning 10-2.
In the second Semi Final we had Krychelle Espinoza and Alex Vidanes (St Dominic's) vs Kate Cassidy and Antonia Victor (St Dominic's) with Cassidy and Victor winning 9-3.
It was a great game between Chante Leafa and Leilani Vetelino (Auckland Girls Grammar) vs Kate Cassidy and Antonia Victor (St Dominic's). St Doms were first on the scoreboard and had a good strong start. Auckland Girls found their stride and managed to close the gap slightly but left their run to take the lead too late Cassidy and Victor winning 5-3 making them the 2017 Champions!
