National Interclub Underway
03 Mar 2017
The National Interclub Finals (run by Bowls NZ) get underway today at greens across Auckland. Division One will be played at clubs south of the Harbour Bridge while the Division Two finals will be played in North Harbour. Competition gets underway at 1pm.
Good luck to the clubs representing the Auckland Centre. In Men's Division One we have Hillsboro, who will play at Howick today and Pakuranga tomorrow. On paper at least their competition will come from Mt Maunganui and Eastbourne from Wellington.
In Women's Division One the Auckland qualifers are Onehunga and Districts. They too are in a tough section with traditional front runners United from Nelson and Kensington from Northland likely to be in the mix. They will play at Blockhouse Bay this afternoon and Carlton Cornwall tomorrow.
The host clubs in Auckland for Division One are: Howick; Pakuranga; Auckland; Hillsboro; Papatoetoe Hunters Corner; Carlton Cornwall; and Blockhouse Bay.
Ellerslie will be leading the charge in Men's Division Two. They play at Milford today and Birkenhead tomorrow. They have been drawn against Naenae, Paraparaumu Beach, Sumner, Te Rangi and Kohukohu from the Far North.
In Women's Division Two Blockhouse Bay will take on Blenheim, Alexandra and an unnamed club from Manuwatu. This division has a reduced number of entries resulting in sections of four or five rather than six. They play at Takapuna today and Beach Haven tomorrow.
Full draws and results can be viewed HERE.
Good luck to the competing clubs and a big thank you to all the clubs that will be hosting competition over the next three days. Headquarters for Division One is Howick and Browns Bay for Division Two. The format will see section play through until the end of tomorrow, with play on Sunday exclusively at the headquarters clubs for quarterfinals, semifinals and finals. The finals are scheduled to be played at 2pm Sunday.
