Campi Won by North West

22 Aug 2016

The 2016 Campi Junior Coaching Tournament was played in good weather at Epsom Bowling Club last weekend 20th & 21st August). The format this year was triples and was contested by 20 teams from each zone. For the past 10 weeks, Junior Coaching has been held within five zones in Auckland, Central at Epsom, North West at Te Atatu, West at Glen Eden, East at St Heliers and South East at Howick. We thank these clubs for the use of their facilities during this time.

The camaraderie on the greens was awesome, there were some very tight games, and you could see the continuous improvement of the bowlers throughout the weekend. For some bowlers this was the first tournament they had played in. It was great to see the youngsters out there playing in these events.

This was the 31st Anniversary of the Campi Tournament and it was a privilege to have Mrs Bev Campi come out on Sunday to watch some games and to present the prizes.

Thanks must go to the Convenors and the Coaches who have willingly assisted at each venue who imparted their knowledge to the `young' bowlers. The feedback received from junior bowlers is all positive and they have thoroughly enjoyed the coaching again over winter. A HUGE thank you to all the BOWLERS who have attended the sessions, all the coaches are proud of your development over this time.

Bowlers ...Don't forget to liaise and keep in contact with your coaches, they are only too willing to help you.

Going into the seventh round, results were tight and there was fierce competition; the results could have gone any way, the eventual winners did it in style, with seven and a half wins from eight games.
