More Finals Action for Auckland
11 Apr 2016
Both the Auckland Men and Women's Under 8 Years Representative sides had a successful weekend in Wellington at the National Under 8's Intercentre.
In the Women's event Auckland won through to the final where they took on Canterbury. Auckland won the singles with Alzeena Levi overcoming Lanah Craik 21-6. The game was evenly poised in the middle with scores of 11-13 and 14-13 but on the final end with Levi holding two shots, Craik drove and removed her own bowl to give Levi the three shots she required to take the game.
The fours went all Canterbury's way with the score being 20-8 by the penultimate end when the game was completed. The
pairs then held the title in their hands. At 14-13 to Canterbury going
into the last end the Auckland skip ran at the head and moved the jack slightly. A couple more inches would have confirmed an extra end but it
was not to be and Canterbury claimed the game and title.
In the Men's event Auckland made it through to the semi-finals where they came up against neighbours North Harbour. North Harbour drew first blood in their game against Auckland with
former Auckland Rep Rory Soden beating Ta Rito in the singles 21-9. Auckland took the pairs 16 - 13, but after some great shots in the final ends North Harbour won the fours and their place in the final. They then went on to beat Taranaki and take the final.
Congratulations to both teams on a hard fought and well played weekend.
