National Intercentre Returns
30 Mar 2016
The National Intercentre returns to Auckland tomorrow for the first time in three years. Howick Bowling Club will once again be the headquarters with a number of other clubs to be used during section play.
The event also requires a number of technical officials, markers, and many club volunteers to make the event successful. On behalf of Auckland Bowls we thank everyone who is involved in the event and wish you a successful few days.
Play gets underway for some sections on Thursday (at Howick and Pakuranga) with the balance of sections to get underway on Friday. Section play continues through until lunchtime on Saturday. Clubs to be used are Howick, Hillsboro, Mangere, Carlton Cornwall, Mt Eden, Pakuranga and St George.
The event then moves to the knockout stage with quarterfinals - men at Pakuranga; women at Howick - on Saturday afternoon. The semifinals and the finals will be played on Sunday morning at Howick Bowling Club.
Auckland will be keen to make use of the hometown advantage. The men get underway on Friday at Mt Eden before finishing section play at Mangere on Saturday. The women play at Pakuranga on Friday and Carlton Cornwall on Saturday. The men come up against Waikato, Kapiti Coast, Gisborne East Coast and South Otago (plus a bye in the section). The women will play Far North, Wellington, Hawkes Bay, Central Otago and Dunedin. The top two sides from each section progress to the knockout phase.
