Women's Singles Semi Finalists Found

The semi finalists in The Trusts Women's Singles have been found at The Trusts New Zealand Open today.  Played in blustery conditions four very competitive and close games were played in the quarterfinals.

Natarsha Grimshaw (Papakura) was the first to book her place in the semi finals after a hard fought 21 - 19 victory over Mangere's Rae Hammond.  It was a close game from the outset with the scores locked at 10 all after 13 ends.  Grimshaw then took control to lead 20 - 15 before Hammond staged a comeback to close the gap to just one point.  A single on the 24th end was enough for Grimshaw to win the match.

Christine Buchanan (Queenstown), who will tomorrow begin her quest to defend here Ryman Healthcare Pairs title, has also reached the semi finals of the singles this year following a 21 - 14 win over Val Matthews (Thames).  It was Matthews that got off to the better start leading 5 - 1 early on before Buchanan found her range to score on five consecutive ends to lead 10 - 5 and then scored at regular intervals to win 21 - 14.

In the third game Jeanette Scarrott (Mt Wellington) played Patsy Robinson (Thames).  This was another close game with the scores locked at 13 all after 16 ends.  Scarrott then scored on consecutive end to lead 18 - 13  before eventually winning 21 - 16.

In the final game of the afternoon at Henderson Bowls, Reen Stratford from her new club Aramaho, proved too strong for defending champion Marilyn McLeod (Tauranga South).  Stratford stormed to a 17 - 6 lead before a mini comeback from McLeod saw the lead cut to 17 - 11, before Stratford eased to a 21 - 13 victory.

In the semi finals on Wednesday afternoon at Blockhouse Bay Bowls Reen Stratford will take on Jeanette Scarrott and Natarsha Grimshaw will play Christine Bucnahan.
