Congratulations to Katelyn Inch
Outstanding Young Sportswoman award at the North Canterbury Sport And Recreation Trust Awards
02 Nov 2015
Katelyn Inch not only picked up the Outstanding Young Sportswoman award at the North Canterbury Sport And Recreation Trust Awards evening on Friday night she also took out the top sports scholarship prize.
There were so many outstanding athletes in the Young Sportswoman category that the judges felt four, instead of the usual three, needed to be recognised for their successes. A majority of the athletes had been successful in either the junior or underage grades but Katelyn being named in the Black Jacks squad seemed to give her the edge.
The MainPower Sport Scholarship finalists are announced on the night. Ten young finalists who had all represented their sport at international level were recognised and all received $2000 to assist them to take the next step on the world stage. Once again the fact that Katelyn will be representing New Zealand at the Asia Pacific Championships in the Open Grade must have given her the edge.
Katelyn said that the night meant so much to her, not because of the award, because it is all about her playing the sport she loves. This was also an opportunity publicly thank her parents for everything they have done and that she couldn't have achieved so much without them. She said that it was special receiving the awards in front of family, friends and supporters. She said that she is passionate about bowls and that it is amazing to have been granted the scholarship to help her to keep on doing what she loves.
The total scholarship that Katelyn took home is worth $7000 and she said she was very grateful to sponsors, MainPower and that this will certainly be put to good use to assist her in the future.
