Presidents Day Officially Gets Season Underway
05 Oct 2015
The Heartland Bank Auckland Bowls Presidents Day was held at the Kiwitea St venue of the Mt Albert Sandringham Bowling Club on Sunday. Thankfully the weather held to enable a full day of bowls to be played.
Fours teams from 30 clubs took part in the day with four games of one hour and 10 minutes being played.
On A Green, Mangere proved too strong winning all four of their games in decisive fashion and taking out first prize. Carlton Cornwall also won all of their games but with 22 ends compared to Mangere's 28 ends they finished second. Third place was won by the local Mt Albert Sandringham team.
On B Green, Avondale came out on top with three wins and a draw. They were followed in second by Epsom who recorded three wins and 25 ends, closely followed by Otahuhu Railway with three wins and 24 ends.
Lucky dip consolation prizes were won by Pt Chevalier, Pt Chevalier RSA and Henderson.
Auckland Bowls President Murray Dorreen thanked everyone for attending the day and he made special mention of all the hardworking volunteers at all of the clubs. Without them the sport would not survive.
Thank you to the Mt Albert Sandringham Bowling Club for hosting a successful opening to the season!
