Champ of Champ Pairs and 1-5 Year Triples Conclude

The Semi-Finals and Finals for the Champ of Champ Men's and Women's Pairs and the 1-5 Year Men's Triples was played today. The weather decided to shine on everyone and some great Bowls was played.

Men's COC Pairs Semi's and Finals:

In the first Men’s Champ of Champ Pairs Semi Final, Graham Growcott and Nick Thompson (Blockhouse Bay) played John Halloran and Roger Sutton (Mt Albert/Sandringham). Blockhouse Bay took the win 19-8.

The second Men’s Semi Final was between Des Berghan and Harry Davis (Pt Chevalier RSA) and Bruce Buchan and Rod Eade (Pringle Park). Pt Chev RSA started with a bang and were leading 12-4 in the 7th end. Pringle Park left their fight to take the lead a little late but managed to close the gap and give Pt Chev RSA something to think about. In the 16th end Pringle Park were within 1 point of Pt Chev RSA 18-17 but didn’t manage to take the last 2 ends and lost 20-17. Great come back though!!

The Final between Blockhouse Bay and Pt Chevalier RSA was convincingly won by Blockhouse Bay today. Pt Chevalier were ahead until the 4th end and then it was all Blockhouse Bays Game. The Final score 22-7.

Women's COC Pairs Semi's and Finals:

In the Women’s Champ of Champ Pairs Semi Final, Clara Bowman and Judi Wong (Carlton Cornwall) vs Jeanette Scarrott and Alison Morrow (Mt Wellington) played a very closely fought game. Carlton Cornwall started by winning the first 6 ends 12-0. Mt Wellington chipped away at Carlton Cornwall and seriously closed the gap but never quite managed to overtake Carlton the final score being 15-14 to Carlton Cornwall.

In the 2nd Semi Final between Alison Rennie and Jill Fraser (Pakuranga) and Darshani Jayasinghe and Glennis Davey (Howick Women’s) Pakuranga took the lead early and managed to hold onto it the entire game. Howick Women’s never managed to get into the game and were shut down early by the dominant Pakuranga team. The final score was 20-6.

The Final between Carlton Cornwall and Pakuranga was a great game with Pakuranga taking the lead by winning the first 4 ends taking the score to 7-0. Carlton Cornwall evened up the game in the 13th end 11-11. Pakuranga stopped Carlton Cornwall from scoring another point and won the last 5 ends. The final score was 18-11.

1-5 Year Men's Triples Semi's and Finals:

The Men’s 1-5 Year triples Semi Final game between Rory Soden, Liam Van Rijn, Patrick Morrison (Glen Eden) and Steve Hoeft, Kevin Skinner, Phil Aitken ( Pt Chevalier) started out in Pt Chev’s favour taking the first 4 ends 6-0. Glen Eden came back with a 5 in the 5th and 7th end taking the lead 10-7. Pt Chev evened up the the game in the 8th end 10-10 and for the next 5 ends it was up and down until in the 13th end the score was even again at 14-14, from here Glen Eden managed to hold on to their lead finishing up with the winning score of 20-14.

The Final between Glen Eden and Blockhouse Bay was the young Glen Eden’s game from the start. They were in charge from the first bowl to the last. The Final score was 25-3.
