Wild Weather greets Competitors

15 Nov 2014

Plenty of wind, rain, hail and a small amount of sun has greeted the competitors in the 2014 The Trusts New Zealand Open qualifying stages.

Former world champion Peter Belliss has been a stand out competitor this year qualifying easily with lead Lance Tasker in the Ryman Healthcare Men's Pairs.  Both players have also qualified in the singles.  Other notable qualifiers in the Men's Singles are Petar Sain, former champion Neil Fisher, defending pairs champion Rob Ashton as well as young guns Raymond Martin and Rory Soden.

In the Men's Pairs 2012 champions David Eades and Scott Curran (Orewa) have qualified once again and will be looking to mount a challenge for another title.  Young Auckland pair Scott Evans and Jordan King will also be keen to impress although they face a potential second round clash with veterans Ross Haresnape and John Carruthers.

In The Trusts Women's Singles defending champion Karen de Jongh will face a strong challenge from the likes of Bowls NZ President Ann Muir, top Auckland player Linda Ralph, and young up and comer Alzeena Levi to name just a few.  Other notable qualifiers include a number of players from the deep south including all of the defending Aero Bowls Women's Triples players Christine Buchanan, Linley O'Callaghan and Margaret O'Connor.

The Ryman Healthcare Women's Pairs competition is shaping up to be a very tough with a number of top line combinations in the draw.
