King and Fenton Champions
03 Nov 2014
Jordan King and lead Ciaran MacElvanna (Hillsboro) and Jane Fenton with
lead Jenny Tough (Glen Eden) have taken out the 2014 Auckland Men's and
Women's Pairs respectively.
In contrasting finals the Glen Eden combination of Fenton and Tough stormed to an early 11-0 lead after just three ends against Angela Temple and Jenny Stockford (Pt Chevalier). They then further extended the lead out to 21-3 after nine ends before eventually wrapping up the title 25 - 6.
On the other hand Jordan King and Ciaran MacElvanna were made to work hard against the experienced duo of Neville Hill and Mike Bradshaw (Onehunga and Districts). They traded early shots with King holding an early 6-5 advantage after seven ends. King and MacElvanna then put the foot down stretching the lead to 16-6 after 12 ends and finally took the match 19-11.
Earlier in the day Hill overcame Chris Lowe and Peter Thorne (Hillsboro) 23 - 7 and King defeated Colin O'Brien and Lindsay Gilmore (Onehunga) 19-16 in semifinal action.
The Women's semifinals produced two tight matches. Temple beat the 2013 champions Karen de Jongh and Bev Crowe (Carlton Cornwall) 17 - 13 and Fenton did just enough to defeat Betty Rush and Joy Baughan (Howick) 17-14.
