Anne Bateman (Hikurangi) is the 2014 Women's Premier Open Singles Champion beating Denise Samuel (Birkenhead) 21-17 in a hard fought and high quality final at the St Heliers Bowling Club.
It was Samuel that got off to the better start leading 8-3 after four ends and then 15-8 after 11 ends. But as the game developed, Bateman that found her rhythm scoring on consecutive ends to draw the game level at 16 all. Bateman then took control going on to win 21-17 scoring a two on the final end to take the match.
Congratulations to Anne Bateman for the win and to Denise Samuel for putting up a great fight.
Earlier in the day Bateman beat Bev Crowe (Carlton Cornwall) in the semi final by the same scoreline of 21-17. With the game tied at 17 all it was again a tight affair with Bateman scoring a single and then a three to close out the match.
In the other semi final Samuel took on local hope Paula Kempthorne (St Heliers). In what was a tight match the time limit was reached after 23 played ends with Samuel ahead and winning the match 17-15.
