Trevor King Passes Away
19 Aug 2014
It is with regret that we announce that Auckland Bowls Life Member Trevor King QSM passed away on Sunday at the age of 88.
Trevor was a respected Life Member and esteemed Member of the Howick Bowling Club for 30 years. A Past President and Chairman for 14 years of the Nixon Park Bowls Board, Trevor was a true visionary and extraordinary fundraiser. His legacy is reflected not only in the green which bears his name, but also in the commanding presence of the Howick Bowling Club complex itself.
At Auckland Bowls level Trevor was a Board Member from 1996 (President in 1999) where he initiated and promoted a change to the management structure that is still in place today. He was awarded Life Membership of Auckland Bowls in 2002. Trevor has kept up to date with Auckland Bowls since retiring from the Board and has always maintained a keen interest in the sport. His knowledge and expertise will be missed.
The impact that Trevor leaves behind was not only in the sport of bowls however. He was also a Life Member of the Pakuranga Rugby Club and the Howick Tennis Club. He was a Rotary Club member for many years and was awarded a Paul Harris award in 1999. His passion for helping others can also be seen in his work for the Life Education Trust South East Auckland where he was Chairman for a period of time as well as being a national board member.
Loved husband of the late Nancy and loved and respected Dad of Diane, Brett, Janice and Sheryn. Adored Poppa of Michael, Sian and Nathan; Mitchell and Regan; Brianne and Kane; Brad, Mark and Kurt. Loving Great Pop of his 6 great grandchildren.
Trevor King was a truly remarkable man and will be missed.
A service celebrating the life and achievements of Trevor will be held at All Saints Anglican Church 17 Selwyn Road Howick on Thursday August 21 at 2:00pm.
