Women's Triples Runners-up in National Club Champs

27 Jun 2014

Auckland's Karen de Jongh, Judi Wong and Bev Crowe missed out on a national title yesterday when they went down in their last game to eventual winners Hawkes Bay.

In the final, while the heads were tight on most ends, Heretaunga seemed to have the advantage over Carlton Cornwall as they bowled a dominant display of bowls from lead to skip. The Auckland triple played well but it wasn’t good enough to beat the Hawkes Bay side of friends, Lynne Stowe, Colleen Ferrick and Lois Stewart of Heretaunga. The final score was 17-8 to Heretaunga who remained undefeated to win the national title.

Congratulations to the girls on a well fought battle.

In the Men's Pairs on Monday and Tuesday  Mangere's Gary Cotton and Mark Hall also started their campaign with a win but succumbed in their second to Wairarapa 18-13. They picked up their third and fourth games and went into the final round on 6 points +12,  tied on points with Wairarapa (6, +8) and eventual winner Wanganui  (6 pts, +21).

Unfortunately Wanganui was the only one of the group who won their round with Dunedin not helping our cause, beating Cotton and Hall 18-12.

Mangere finished third overall but are to be congratulated on their efforts.
