31 Mar 2014
The Auckland Women's Development Side yesterday won the Regional Development Intercentre at Henderson.
On Saturday the Zone 1 Development Sides took to the greens competing against North Harbour, Northland and Far North. The top two sides for men and women then returned yesterday for the playoffs against the top two sides in Zone 2.
On Saturday the Auckland Women came through in top place for the women, with North Harbour two points behind as the second side to qualify.
In the Men's competition on Saturday Northland and North Harbour were too good for Far North and the Auckland Men's sides both sides winning with 12 points.
The combined results of the Men and women on Saturday also came in to play with the Robin Ellery Trophy being awarded to the centre with the best combined results. This went to North Harbour this year with 24 combined points with Auckland second on 22.
Yesterday it was a clean sheet with Bay of Plenty, Counties Manukau, Northland and North Harbour battling it out for supremecy in the Men's competition and Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Counties Manukau and North Harbour in the Women's.
The Men's competition finished with both North Harbour and Northland both on 12 points but Northland took the log of wood with a better net total of shots.
In the Women's event Auckland went into the final round two points behind North Harbour but a clean sweep by Auckland whilst North Harbour only managed one win was the difference and it was the final game- the pairs where Auckland played North Harbour that was the decider- Auckland won 17-9 to take the title.
Congratulations to all players for their great bowls, to Henderson Bowls for hosting another great event and to the umpires and markers for their time over the weekend.
