Mouton & Ralph take Heartland Bank Auckland 2-4-2 Mixed Pairs
23 Sep 2013
Scott Mouton and Linda Ralph claimed the Heartland Bank Auckland 2-4-2 Mixed Pairs title emphatically winning the final 24-13 against Barry Aspin and Doreen Jensen.
Mouton and Ralph had earlier claimed the scalp of Keshwa and Rae Hammond, who had looked invincible the week before.
Mouton had a lead of 12-0 before Keshwa scored and the final score was 18-7 after just thirteen ends when the Mangere pair conceded.
Aspin and Jenson's path to the final was equally decisive beating Sue Curran and Graeme Bennett 21-11 in their final. Although in this game a bit of luck was on their side- or rather not on Curran's side. A drive early on in the game saw Curran drop a five as she managed to clean put both her bowls on the head. Not content with that drive, Curran had another one later in the game connected with the jack which hit a back bowl and propelled forward to short bowls from the opposition.
The final score in that game was 21-11 with two ends to play.
Mouton and Aspin then battled out the final.
Mouton had a better start and scored nine points in the first two ends. Aspin fought his way to the lead after eight ends picking up a five a two and two singles on the fifth to eighth ends.
But there the wheels fell off for Aspin and Jensen as Mouton and Ralph claimed a three, two singles and another three before Aspin could rake up another shot.
The final played end, the fourteenth, saw Mouton pick up another six shots to take the game 24-13.
Congratulations to Scott and Linda who will now represent Auckland in the Regional Finals in North Harbour in March next year.
Our thanks to Bridge Park for the use of their facilities throughout the event.
