2-4-2 Mixed Pairs Semi Finalists Found
16 Sep 2013
The Heartland Bank Auckland 2-4-2 Mixed Pairs is down to the semifinals after a great weekend of play.
The quarterfinals were played yesterday at Bridge Park with a good crowd of spectators staying until the last bowls were played.
Warwick Frederikson of Blockhouse Bay has a new set of bowls and was drawing all day like a poultice. However he and partner Enid Kerr, found themselves up against Scott Mouton and Linda Ralph who showed no mercy at all. While Frederikson lead for the first five ends the traffic was all one way after that with Mouton finally closing the game out 19-9 after fifteen ends.
Wayne Motu and Kirsty Hill also found themselves in trouble after the first few ends against Keshwa and Rae Hammond and conceded the game after only 13 ends having seen the writing on the wall at 21-7.
Barry Aspin and Doreen Jensen also cruised through to the semifinals with a good win over Sani Fane and Eli Bell. The final score in their game was 22-11.
The final of the games was between Nick Bell and Jo-Anne Ikiua of Pt Chevalier and Sue Curran and Graeme Bennett of St Heliers.
Curran and Bennett had a great start to the game and were soon 10-2 up on the Pt Chevalier duo.
However scoring on the sixth to the tenth ends consecutively including picking up a four soon had Bell and Ikiua snapping at the heels of Curran and Bennett 11-10.
Curran and Bennett then found their form again and picked up the next couple of ends to have a 14-10 buffer.
Pt Chevalier scored the next end with a single shot before Curran and Bennett put a few bowls around the jack. Bell ran with both his last bowls and missed the cluster to allow Curran to pick up four shots to lead 18-11 after fourteen ends.
With the time running out Curran also held the fifteenth end with a single shot to claim the semi-final spot with a 19-11 win.
