Winter Interclub Heats Up!
15 Jul 2013
The competition is heating up in Winter Interclub - but not the weather!
Rounds three and four and in some cases round five was played in cold and sometimes wet but always blustery conditions on Sunday (14 July) at venues across Auckland.
In section one Pt Chevalier Pirates have a three point lead over Glendowie and Onehunga with Carlton Cornwall just a further point behind. With six points up for grabs next week, the race is still on for top spot in the section.
In Section two Blockhouse Bay have 18 points and Glen Eden second with 16 points. Sections three and four look to be a little more clear cut with East Tamaki and Okahu Bay respectively obtaining a decisive advantage over their rivals.
It is all over in Section five with the teams deciding to play the fifth and final round on Sunday rather than to come back next week. The section has been won by Pringle Park who amassed 10 wins and a draw from their 15 games.
Carlton Cornwall and possibly Edendale will now have a nervous wait to see if they have enough points to claim one of the three lucky loser spots for the quarterfinals.
With byes in sections three and four some complicated maths (as per the laws of the sport!) will be applied to ensure teams in this section are not penalised (having played one less game) when it comes to determining the next best three sides to contest the quarterfinals.
All will become clear following the final round of matches on Sunday!
